Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often about SASSA, NSFAS and UIF status checks.

Is this website an official government service?

No. Check Status is an independent information website. We are not affiliated with SASSA, NSFAS, the Department of Employment and Labour, or any other government body. We explain how the official processes work and link you to the official channels.

Can you check my application status for me?

No. We do not have access to any government systems and cannot see, change, or approve your application. Only the relevant agency can do that. Our guides show you exactly which official channels to use.

How do I check my SASSA status?

You can check your SASSA status through official SASSA channels using the ID number and phone number from your application. Our SASSA status check guide walks through the steps and explains what each status message means.

How do I check my NSFAS application status?

Log in to your myNSFAS account on the official NSFAS website to see your application status. Our NSFAS status check guide explains each stage, from application received to approved or rejected.

How do I check my UIF claim status?

You can check a UIF claim status through the official uFiling portal, at a labour centre, or via the Department of Employment and Labour. See our UIF status check guide for the details.

Why does my status say pending for a long time?

A pending status usually means your application is still being processed and verified against other databases. Timeframes vary and can be affected by high application volumes. If it remains pending well beyond the stated timeframe, contact the relevant agency directly through their official channels.

Do you charge any fees?

No. Check Status is completely free, and the official status checks are free too. Be very cautious of anyone who asks for payment to approve or speed up an application, as this is a common scam.

I think I have been scammed. What should I do?

Stop all payments and contact immediately, avoid sharing further personal details, and report the incident to the relevant agency and the South African Police Service. Going forward, only use verified official channels.
